OUR STORY
We started out a group of people who had on thing in common – we were passionate about seeing change in our city. Different people from different walks of life, came together one evening under one roof to talk about it, and rest is history. We went from a 6 hour intense conversation to a camp in a church where our passion was multiplied among nearly a hundred people. A revolution began. A hundred people were now passionate about changing their world, about changing someone’s life, about living justly.
Justice, to us, is about seeing every human being have access to their basic rights, which is something that we have received freely. Unfortunately a majority of our country is not as privileged. Having come to this realization, we decided that it is our responsibility to do something about it.
It didn’t stop at a camp; we continued to ‘walk the talk’. We got involved with ‘The Government Home for Mentally Challenged Boys’ which is an overpopulated and understaffed facility near Dairy Circle. The boys have a big need companionship, physical activity and mental stimulation. In partnership with a physiotherapist, we developed a curriculum to enhance their sensory and motor skills using arts and crafts, music, physical activities and a whole lot of TLC!
We also partnered with an NGO called OASIS and helped them in their work with kids from a local slum. Our first project with the kids was a basic photography course. It wasn’t long before we realized that these kids were exceptionally talented and had great potential. By the end of their course, we set up a photography exhibition showcasing their work and auctioned their photographs to raise money for Oasis. This was followed by a basic computer course for the boys form the slum. At the moment, an English course is in progress as well. Our aim is to equip these kids with the skills they need to become employable and support themselves.
We believe that our journey is just beginning. Our passion is multiplying as we see the result of a little hard work and involvement. All this began with the change in the mindset of a few committed people. With your participation, we can achieve so much more. We seek JuSTiCE, and we truly believe that U and I can make a difference.
